☆Who can practice Shoshin Yoga?
Everyone! The sequences are designed for every body, regardless of age, ability or degree of fitness. Shoshin Yoga sequences include floor work, standing poses, the use of the wall and props. Shoshin Yoga is perfect for beginners and those with little to no yoga experience. Even advanced yoga practitioners may find enjoyment and benefit in our unique sequences that work to stretch and strengthen the entire body, quiet the mind, reduce stress and bring a sense of peace and ease into one's daily life.
☆How long are the classes?
All classes are approximately 25-45 minutes long. If you don't have time to practice the full 45 minute sequence, you can divide the class in half, and practice for 20-25 minutes at a time. If you desire a longer practice, you can combine 2 classes back to back, giving yourself a 90 minute practice. No matter how long you practice, always take savasana at the end of your sequence, giving yourself at least 5 minutes to relax, be still and complete your practice.
☆How many days a week should I practice?
Typically we recommend if you are new to yoga or just starting out, to begin with practicing 2-3 times per week. As you progress through the class plans, you can increase to 3-5 times per week. Some people will find as they continue with along their yoga journey they will want to practice everyday. Just keep in mind, gaining the results you desire will be a slow, gradual process. Take your time and don't rush. Consistency, dedication and non-attachement is what produces results. Practice with patience, compassion and non-judgement towards yourself.
Some people think that props are used to make yoga postures easier or more accessible. While this is true in some instances, it is not always the case. Shoshin Yoga uses props mostly to create a variety of angles in a pose, in order to avoid doing the same repetitive movements over and over again. Repetitive movements can increase the risk of injury, which is why Shoshin Yoga sequences have lots and lots of variety. Props are also used to increase the effects that gravity has on exposing and releasing restrictions in the connective tissue and muscles. Props are amazing! They provide access to specific angles in poses that could normally never be achieved. We understand that while traveling or in certain instances you may not have access to props, which is why we provide a combination of classes with and without props. If you are setting up a home practice and plan to follow Shoshin Yoga classes consistently, we highly encourage you to acquire the props listed below to enhance the quality of your practice.
☆What do I need to practice Shoshin Yoga?
The first 8 sessions (and others in the library) only require a yoga mat. As the classes progress the following props are needed:
•2 Round Bolsters (raw cotton or cotton is best -avoid foam). We recommended having multiple shapes and sizes of bolsters to create a variety of angles.
•2 Yoga Blocks (cork is recommended).
•1 Yoga Strap
•2 Yoga Blankets (you can use throw blankets you would find on your couch or event towels if you need to improvise).
•Please note for some classes require a wall and or a baseboard to be used as a prop.
•Wifi. You must be connected to the internet to access the class library. Currently, we do not offer downloadable classes and all class content is contained within our website.
